christine-lavin-4Christine Lavin is one of the funniest, most engaging and truly human songwriters alive today.  She has recorded 20 solo albums, the latest being Cold Pizza for Breakfast on Yellow Tail Records, but it is on stage that she truly shines.  Audiences warm to her winning personality instantly, and within minutes, she has them laughing and singing along.  In addition to decades of performances all over the US, Canada, and points beyond (Australia, Germany, Israel), she has hosted "Slipped Disks" on xm satellite radio, playing CDs slipped to her backstage by compatriots.  And she is the occasional guest host for the City Folk Sunday Breakfast Show on WFUV-FM at Fordham University.
She also  writes freelance for various publications (including The Washington Post, The St. Petersburg Times, The Performing Songwriter, and Delta "Sky" Magazine).  Her song "Amoeba Hop" was turned into a science/music book by illustrator Betsy Franco Feeney (Puddle Jump Press), received the stamp of approval from The International Society of Protistologists, and a "Best Book Award" from the American Association for The Advancement of Science.

Christine’s songs have been performed by artists as diverse as Broadway stars Betty Buckley, Sutton Foster, and David Burnham, cabaret divas Andrea Marcovicci, Barbara Brussell, Colleen McHugh, the college a cappella Dartmouth Decibelles, and The Accidentals, winners of the National Harmony Sweepstakes championship.

Christine most recently received a 2012 NYC Nightlife Award given annually to the best concert and cabaret performers.  Christine has also won five ASCAP composer awards, the Backstage Bistro Award for Best NYC Singer/Songwriter Of The Year, The Kate Wolf Memorial Award, and her album Good Thing He Can't Read My Mind won Album Of The Year from the National Association Of Independent Record Distributors.

The Woodlands Folk Festival is proud to welcome Christine to our 2012 stage!

robbi-kumalo-2Woodlands is always an event with a great vibe for all ages.  The festival takes place outdoors on intimate landscaped, wooded and enclosed grounds -- very safe for families.

The 2012 Woodlands Family Stage will be dedicated to children’s music, with performers gearing songs for the younger set.

Innovative children’s music artists CLIMB (Children Learn In Music Best), always a hit at Woodlands, will return to get children moving and singing.

In addition to great music for kids, there will be free and low-cost games and activities to keep children interested throughout the day, including instrument making, face painting, scavenger hunts, story time and games.  Older kids will enjoy the henna booth, and great home-made food will fuel families for a beautiful early fall day of music and fun.
